ABOUT ME

My name is Persaphanie Velasco, I’m American-Mexican with an American-Mexican mother and Mexican father. My father had little to no education and my mother has up to her sophomore year of high school, so they’ve always pushed me to do better than they have in their life and raised me with certain beliefs. Most kids my age view the world through the eyes of a young adult and are just beginning to become mature and form into adults. But I saw the world through adult eyes ever since I was 6 and my mom began showing me how to care for myself. My parents always told me that they aren’t going to be here forever and could be gone any day so I had to know how to take care of myself if anything were to happen. Although I could fend for myself at a young age I still saw the world like a little kid, but that all came to an end when I found out that the person I looked up to and wanted to be when I grew up was a person who had put their hands on someone close to me. At that moment it felt like my world was crumbling down but I took it as a lesson in life. The world isn’t all rainbows and pony’s like we want it to be, there’s issues in this world that we don’t take seriously because we think that it won’t happen to us.

MISSION STATEMENT

My personal mission in life is to help people's voices be heard. I want people to be able to speak up about things without fearing it and knowing they have resources and people to support them. Which I hope to accomplish by going to college, studying criminology and helping families and people's voices be heard everyday. I hope to make a difference in my community by educating them on the updated laws and issues in the world.
